The four venues at Southern Sun Maputo are a selection of the city’s best equipped spaces, combining modern audio and video technology with support from an experienced team, adaptable seating configurations and customizable packages for simple stress-free planning.

The hotel’s conferencing wing features its own separate entrance for on-time event starting, on-site secure parking, garden access for breaks, and plenty of Maputo inspired details like wood paneled walls and mosaiced floors.

Venue choices include two main divisible conference venues, a private dining area connected to the restaurant, an executive residents lounge for intimate meetings and outdoor areas including our grand 200-year old fig tree courtyard as well as poolside and beachfront lawns. From conference to celebration and everything in between the Southern Sun Maputo has a venue for the occasion. 

Larger meetings can be looked after in the comfort and spacious surroundings of Mphama, a divisible space that when combined offers 216m2 of event space for 160 with natural light, views that look out towards the gardens and ocean, and comes equipped with projection tech and high speed WiFi. Sound deadening and individual climate and lighting control makes it possible to host two events simultaneously with space in each room for 40 – 100 depending on seating configurations.  

Smaller meetings, boardroom briefings and team training sessions can be hosted in the Acacia or Mikaya rooms. Each with unobstructed beach views that set a relaxed but productive scene, large flat-screen TV’s and lighting and climate control for meetings for 12 to 30. These two rooms can be combined or used as two distinct rooms. 

The Residents Lounge is a classic executive lounge space with aged leather and rich wood, a private bar area, relaxed seating and discreet position within the hotel. Perfect for informal meetings or small private events where discretion is key.  

Outside spaces include lawn areas beside the pool perfect for breakaways or celebrations in their own right, direct beach access and the fig tree courtyard where guests can wine and dine under the swaying branches of a tree that has witnessed the changing face of Maputo for more than two centuries.
